A proposal to return Sifu to Wonderland

Ask yourself if Wonderland hadn’t hired Sifu as TM, and he hadn’t done such an awesome job of growing the treasury, and if he hadn’t been doxxed in the way and at the time that he was, would you hire him for the job?

Despite his many impressive achievements and clean track record over the past twenty something years, you would have to be a little concerned at least, about the PR liability concerning other organisations doing due diligence on Wonderland. Sadly, this problem has only been made worse by recent events, and more difficult to manage from a PR standpoint.

I would recommend bringing it back.
but not as the only treasury manager, but as one of at least 2 or as a consultant.
so that his ideas and knowledge plus the knowledge of e.g. the professor can be incorporated.

I was more than happy for SIFU to stay on as treasury manager after the liquidation fiasco with wonderland. In fact I also voted for him to stay. This man did a fantastic job of managing the treasury and looking for fresh deals for us.

I was a bit concerned about his past when it all blew up but ultimately I also trust Daniele and if he thinks SIFU is/was the man for the job then it’s also fine by me.

So I too support this proposal. Everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves after rocky past.

However, I am not for reinstating the leveraging of wMemo… ever!

The first step is to fix the voting system. Then we can vote on RQ, Sifu, the future of WL, etc.

Sifu has so much knowledge. He has been actively involved in various DeFi opportunities, going through new projects & their discords. I feel him to be the right man for this job. But I also feel that to increase credibility, accountability & make better decisions, we should have third party auditors & few more people with Sifu to manage treasury. Few more people as just like in Democracy, views of one, will get balanced by views of others so as to make better informed & rational decision. I am saying this irrespective of the Sifu episode.

I support the Sifu back situation … but why are we still talking about " Implement a exit option so that anyone objecting to this chosen path, can redeem wMEMO at backing value. " like any other investment if people want to leave they leave with a loss . thats it .

Agreed. People reacted without knowing all the facts. Now we know he left Quadriga way before and he was only guilty of crime in his youth.
The guy has more money that most in one lifestyle. He started this to benefit others and himself. To test ideas and develop them into profitable ventures for the long term. He’s vested in the project yes bring him back.
The biggest thieves are those sitting atop many big banks who profit at your expense but nobody is voting them out.

I do not agree Sifu can come back to wonderland in any official capacity.

Let’s start with the obvious, Sifu has a criminal record. Whether that record was 10+ years ago or not does not change the fact he was accused and charged with two separate crimes (credit card fraud and conspiracy). Even with his dues paid it is still public information that would continue to tarnish the name of this project and as we’ve seen has extended its reach to Dani other associates and even projects (popsicle/Abracadabra).

As most of us are aware we are still in the infancy of DeFi which means we still have to continue mass adoption and convince not only average crypto investors but to the larger population as well. Many of which hear stories like this and immediately steer clear of the project or space no matter how successful is has preformed. The sheer thought of us as a community trying to convince the world that we re-voted back someone who has his record makes me nauseated.

Moving on to the effect it would have on this project. Unfortunately most are not as forgiving and there was outrage and alot of backlash when his identity was revealed. I believe if this vote was to pass going forward most reputable projects, developer’s, community managers, and larger investors would no longer work with us.

We have already seen projects like morpheus swap renounce us, Andre himself has been vocal about the situation, even our own frog nation projects Abracadabra, and Popsicle distanced themselves calling this a “failed experiment” and “black sheep”. It would be naive to think that Sifus past would not continue to hinder this project and future opportunities.

While I agree he has done an amazing job with the treasury let’s not neglect all of the other things he failed to produce. Starting with the BSGG airdrop, this was extremely preemptively announced. This issue alone will be a learning point for this project going forward. As a leader of the project it falls on him for this failure, not the devs as everyone likes to express. Because of this it has created the narrative that this project itself is a rugpull and established broken trust within leadership.

Secondly we have the liquidation cascades, while I do agree the community was targeted and attacked it shows a complete lack of competence that this happened multiple times. The sole reliance of sifu to do buybacks was a failure of leadership on all levels, he should have had other individuals who could fill his spot in case of absence. This experience alone is enough grounds for removal.

Lastly we have revenue share that we were told was ready to be launched the following week of his demise. Now we can see it was a plan to not allow revenue share through WMEMO but through Sspell, completely changing the sentiment and direction of the original plan to lock WMEMO.

Overall if Sifu wants to assist or advise Dani as a friend or 3rd party actor I could not complain but it would be extremely short sighted to being him back into this project as an official team member. I say we move forward with a clean slate and new team first and can discuss other opportunities in the future.

Too many people like to be seen to go with the popular. This world of intolerance. Everyone has to be whiter than white as long as nobody looks into their own skeleton closet.
Has he stolen in the last 20yrs or been convicted for wrong doing ?
Who has never done anything wrong before?

I would support this also, he didn’t do anythign negative to wonderland…it was overreactions from the community that lead to his departure, it’s easy to see that an overwealming majority of those who overreacted have had time to reflect and had a change of heart.

Yes. Sifu belongs to be in wonderland. Let bygones be bygones.

I also support this. In my experience with wonderland has only been good to wonderland investors and he drove wonderland to the size it became. He was the momentum that drove wonderland and if he wanted to steal he had so many chances that he could have done so. Yet, he didn’t steal, repaid people more than they spent for the fees incurred when staking for the NFT bid, and was in the process of reimbursing people who got liquidated below his liquidation price, from his own personal funds. I don’t see any misconduct in any of those decisions.

Thank you, for what in my opinion is the most thoughtful counter-argument reply that has been posted. I think all of the points you raised are valid. Here’s why, however, I would continue to be in favor of bringing Sifu back (these are obviously just my own opinions):

  • Wonderland exists to create value for its investors. It is not trying to win a popularity contest. I believe that even if limited to investment in permissionless DeFi systems, Sifu would still deliver more value for Wonderland than anyone else. Meaning, even in the worst case scenario we still all benefit.
  • I believe the size of the public backlash was flamed by the emotions of the moment. Two liquidations had happened (your criticisms around those are valid), many were economically harmed by those liquidations, and then that turmoil was immediately followed by the shock of the suspiciously timed doxx. I believe that when a little time has passed, and the full context of Sifu is reflected on—past and present—there will be public sentiment shift, just as there seems to be (from the majority of comments on this post) an internal sentiment shift. Finally, I believe this sentiment shift will be amplified if Sifu continues with his record of strong treasury performance.
  • Sifu was contributing to Abracadabra prior to founding Wonderland, and his main contribution was putting into operation, Dani’s vision. Dani is admittedly not an operator. If we could construct a metric representing all of Frog Nation, and map the trajectory of its growth, I am confident its sharp uptick will correspond to Sifu’s arrival. With Dani as a visionary, supported by a group of developers, Sifu brings the critical operational ingredient needed for Frog Nation to be a success—involving helping to organize internal development effort, negotiating partnerships, along with the investments execution. I do not believe a replacement for that will be found.
  • Summing this up, and as someone with a large position in wMEMO, I believe that if we bring Sifu back now, and project ourselves a year into the future, we will not regret that decision. And I believe if we choose any other path, we will regret it.

It would be great to have a team of treasury managers. That way we could have a brain trust which can communicate their ideas and spread the work load. Our funds would be safer with more people having to commit to the idea.

I think it was a good idea to temporarily remove him until we understood more, I would be happy to vote him back in knowing what I know now

If I sat down and tried to come up with the absolute worst idea I could think of it would be to bring Sifu back. Surely this is not a serious consideration in this community. It’s like voting to take our money, pile it all together and set it on fire.

Sifu for Head Of Treasury. He was working good, making money for wonderland. Cancel cancel culture. Everyone deserve a second chance. Shitshow was orchestrated to bring down MIM and #frognation. Would like to hear from Sifu his thoughts.

This is a totally unacceptable proposal.

Wonderland community, BEWARE! Sifu hired Reputation.ca to clean up negative comments and put in fake positive blogs, articles to change his online reputation in 2019. Should we trust our investment or money or whats left of it with this character?

Many of the supporting comments looks like the work of the same Reputation.ca. They are trying to do the same thing now to manage his online image and change online perception…and is being used to forcibly push this proposal across!

Quote from The Globe and Mail Newspaper about sifu (aka Michael Partyn aka Omar Dhanani):
“Reputation.ca offers services to bury uncomplimentary search results while creating and promoting positive material. Reputation.ca pointed to posts about Patryn on Reddit from users claiming that Patryn, co-founder of Quadriga, is actually a “fraudster” named Omar Dhanani.”

If you are interested the references here to fact check…

You should consider the actual reports that are attached in the post for proof, rather than some news articles. One of the reasons this post was made is to show evidence, not news stories and stop the misinformation.

I said this when we voted him in and I’ll link to it again.

In hindsight, this could have helped with some of the issues we faced, but every “feedback” from that RFC was ignored. Maybe judged to be out of scope ?

Either way, I believe we should define the role and responsibilities of the “treasury and operation manager” before voting on who should occupy the seat. Maybe this is part of the docs that were/are pending final approval.
